My Whimsical Bow Twirl Dress pattern is made with a shirred bodice. Shirring can be quite tricky and upsetting since some sewing machine don’t “like” to sew with elastic thread.

I’ve always wanted to try but live hours from a fabric store and can’t find elastic thread at walmart.

Thank you for the links. I bought elastic thread 6 months ago and keep backing out of shirring not, wanting to ruin my precious fabric. I’ll try giving it a go and let you all know how it turns out.

I love shirring and have found that my drop in bobbin sewing machine does not like elastic thread in the bobbin at all. The shop I bought the machine from told me a way to bypass the bobbin tension but it hasn’t worked for me yet. I have had great success with my 1940’s Singer Sewing machine with the bobbin case on the side. Good luck everyone!

Elastic thread is tricky. Do not back stitch it and always leave enough when you finish a stitch so that it doesn’t shrink back in and unraval before you can secure it’s stich…does that even make sense? (It will once it happens to you, lol)

I found my elastic thread at Walmart. Its not where the regular thread is. Its over on the wall where the pins and elastics are found. Maybe you should look again. Good luck!
